Approximately 19,000 model-year 2017-19 Alfa Romeo Giulia sedans and model-year 2018-19 Stelvio SUVs are being recalled due to brake software issues. The brake system module software may prevent the driver from disabling adaptive cruise control after the traction control system detects a specific wheel slip, increasing the risk of a crash.

Alfa Romeo began notifying owners March 25. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more

To fix the problem, dealers will update the brake system module software.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
