Approximately 1,900 model-year 2017-2018 Audi R8 Spyder and coupe sports cars are being recalled due to an issue with the gearbox ventilation hose. Transmission fluid may leak from the gearbox ventilation hose after certain high speed and maneuvering situations, which could contact hot engine parts, increasing the risk of a fire.
Audi will begin notifying owners on Oct. 31. Owners can call the automaker at 800-253-2834 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
To fix the problem, dealers will replace the single gearbox ventilation hose with a double ventilation hose.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
