Hyundai is recalling more than 94,000 model-year 2015-16 Genesis and model-year 2017-20 Genesis G80 sedans due to brake issues. The antilock brake system module could malfunction and short circuit, potentially causing an engine compartment fire while driving or when the car is parked, increasing the risk of injury.

Hyundai will begin notifying owners on May 7. Owners can call the automaker at 855-371-9460 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will replace the antilock brake system module. Hyundai recommends that owners park outside and away from any structures until repairs have been made.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
