Approximately 130 model-year 2015-18 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 and model-year 2017-18 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 sedans are being recalled due to airbag issues. The occupant classification system may have been improperly calibrated which may prevent proper deployment of the front passenger airbag, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Mercedes-Benz will begin notifying owners Feb. 11. Owners can call the automaker at 800-367-6372 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
To remedy the issue, dealers will replace the front passenger seat cushion.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
