Approximately 322,900 model-year 2014-19 Acura MDX and model-year 2017-19 MDX Sport Hybrid SUVs are being recalled due to issues with the tailgate lid lights. Seals around the rear liftgate light may fail, allowing moisture to enter which could cause a loss of the tailgate lights, reducing the vehicle’s visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

Acura parent company Honda began notifying owners on April 29. Owners can call the automaker at 888-234-2138 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will modify the tailgate lid lights and install updated gaskets and a wiring sub-harness, or they will replace both tailgate lid lights, if necessary.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
