Approximately 3.5 million model-year 2015-17 Cadillac Escalade SUVs; model-year 2014-18 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup trucks, Silverado 2500/3500 heavy-duty pickups, GMC Sierra 1500 pickups, and Sierra 2500/3500 heavy-duty pickups; and model-year 2015-18 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe and GMC Yukon SUVs are being recalled due to brake issues. The pump in the power-assist brakes can put out less vacuum power than needed as it ages, increasing stopping distance and the risk of a crash.

Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC manufacturer GMC began notifying owners on Sept. 6. Owners can call Cadillac at 800-458-8006, Chevrolet at 800-630-2438, GMC at 800-462-8782 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will reprogram the electronic brake control module.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
