Approximately 248,900 model-year 2014-15 Ford Fiesta hatchbacks and sedans, and model-year 2014-16 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans are being recalled due to door latch issues. A lever in the door latch can crack and fail, causing the door to not close. If the owner is able to latch the door after repeated attempts, the door could unlatch while driving, increasing the risk of injury.
Ford began notifying owners on May 4. Owners can call the automaker at 800-392-3673 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
To fix the problem, dealers will replace the side door latches.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
