Ford is recalling over 2.9 million model-year 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. A damaged or missing shift cable bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, or the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the “Park” position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed on June 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
To resolve the issue, dealers will replace the underhood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
