Approximately 662,100 model-year 2012-20 Volkswagen Passat sedans and model-year 2018-19 Atlas SUVs are being recalled due to headlight issues. The blocking cap disabling the adjustment of the headlight’s horizontal aim may not have been installed, allowing drivers to adjust the headlights out of specification, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

Volkswagen will begin notifying owners on July 10. Owners can call the automaker at 800-893-5298 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will inspect and block the headlight horizontal adjustment, if necessary.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
