Approximately 228,800 model-year 2006-10 Kia Sedona minivans and model-year 2007-09 Sorento SUVs are being recalled due to a fire risk. Moisture can get into the antilock brake system’s electronics, which can lead to a short circuit and increase the risk of an engine compartment fire, even when the affected vehicles are parked and turned off, increasing the risk of an injury.
Kia will begin notifying owners on April 10. Owners can call the automaker at 800-333-4542 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
To fix the problem, dealers will install a relay in the main junction box to prevent power from being directed to the hydraulic electronic control unit when the ignition switch is turned off.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
